From the Heart

The past couple of weeks have been interesting to say the least.

First, I caught a nasty summer cold that sent me to see my doctor, who then discovered I had been living with a heart condition called Atrial Fibrillation or AFib for a while now. This came as such a surprise to me, as I have always had such a healthy heart, low blood pressure, low heart rate and so on. But, my father has this condition, and it can be inherited from a parent.

Since the diagnosis, I have become even more aware of and conscious of my heart. I read my pulse regularly and pay close attention to it’s rate and rhythm. I listen. It has been just over a week and a half since my diagnosis, and I already underwent my first cardioversion on Friday, which is when doctors reset your heart’s rhythm with electrical pads placed on your chest. It worked the first time, and hoping it lasts for a while.

I am also required to take blood thinning medication, as the risk of stroke is very high for those with atrial fibrillation. I’m not too excited about having pharmaceuticals in my body, but trying to cope with it for now.

This news is still so new for me, and I am still sitting with it. Each day it becomes a bit clearer and easier to accept and work with. I have missed a few of my classes and have had to get subs to cover, but looking forward to getting back to my regular schedule tomorrow.

I will be bringing with me, an even deeper understanding of the heart, and all of it’s invisible wisdom.

LOVE!!!
